FAST FOOD- Smoothies for Pups & Pawrents

Our ‘FAST FOOD’ segment is meant to make delicious and nutrient dense food easy, accessible, and fast for pups and pawrents!

Check out these tips and the subsequent recipes to help you and your pup be your best selves!

Did you know that both humans and dogs benefit nutritionally from eating as many whole, foods as possible? Additionally, most whole, unprocessed human foods are safe for dogs!

Next time you are making yourself a nutritious treat, set aside some of the whole ingredients for your pup to enjoy in their next meal. Dogs and humans both digest things best if they are cut into small pieces or even pureed; this enables us to get as many of the nutrients out of the foods that we are ingesting.

Recipe for a Simple Dog & Human Delicious Smoothie:

  • Spinach

  • Pineapple

  • Blueberries

  • Sunflower Seeds

  • Flaxseeds

  • Liquid to blend- (*this is where you want to be careful. Whether you choose juice, milk, coconut water, or something else, ensure what you choose has * no artificial sweeteners or Xylitol in it. These are not great for humans and they are toxic to dogs. Check out the Choosing to be Well group for a simple Nut Milk recipe you can make yourself and know it is safe for you and your pup's homemade puppachinos.)

Be sure to start adding “human foods” in small amounts to allow your dog’s digestive system to adjust and their gut microbiome to adapt. The more diversity that we and our pups have in our diet, the stronger our gut microbiome becomes which fuels our immune systems, our bodies and brains, and enables us to be and feel our best.

Be sure when adding “human foods” to your pups’ meals, aim for whole proteins, healthy fats, greens, fruits, and seeds. Keep in mind that fruits have a lot of sugar in them, and so we add fruit in very small increments and lean into proteins and greens whenever possible.

Getting nutrition support for your pup can help address things like food sensitivities, skin and digestive challenges, and behavioral issues caused by poor diet.
